Market Village Senior Residence has been a welcome addition to the Elko New Market community. It’s a beneficial blend of quality senior housing and government partnership. Camille Ritter, property manager for Great Lakes Management Company, shares information about Market Village in this month’s member profile.

Market Village Senior Residence opened in 2012 as a 55+ senior housing community and is considered independent living without services.

Market Village Apartments is owned by the Scott County Community Development Agency. How does this differ from privately-held senior housing?

Market Village benefits Elko New Market by providing affordable, market-rate senior housing that is well maintained and adds value to the community and providing services through a partnership with local government agencies. Market Village features a county library and a public community space as part of the building. Both are popular with citizens of Elko New Market and provide resources for residents and the larger community to use.

What is the monthly cost of an apartment?

Market Village has 49 apartments. There are three studio apartments, 14 one-bedroom apartments, 20 one-bedroom plus den apartments, 8 two-bedroom apartments, and 4 two-bedroom plus den apartments. Studios rent for $644; one-bedroom units rent for $850-$876; one-bedroom plus den apartments rent for $1,085-$1,229; two-bedroom units rent for $1,260-$1,288; and two-bedroom plus den units rent for $1,495-$1,505.

What are a few things that people typically don’t know about senior housing?

The Scott County CDA owns eight 55+ independent living senior communities. Locations include: River Centre, Northridge Court, and The Henderson in Shakopee; Brentwood Court in Jordan; Philipp Square in New Prague; and The Hamilton and Glendale Place in Savage.

What trend do you see in apartment living for seniors? Are there future plans for additional senior housing in this area?

The market is strong for senior housing in Minnesota, and this region has many options available. Many factors go into housing planning for prospects, such as location, price, age of property, features and benefits, and the need for services. Plans are in place for construction of a new Scott County CDA-owned, independent living building for seniors 55+ in Jordan.
